Advertising
Used to show the world the
spectacle that is MD:TAS, items in this catagory are especially rare because they were
never offered for public sale. Rescued from the garbage can and saved especially for
collectors, these items are great finds.
Disney Cast Member
Pin
Employees for the Disney Store will wear pins
for a period of time to advertise events like a movie release, or a special sale.
Employees around the country received these pinback buttons to wear as a part of their
uniform for a few months while the Ducks were on the air. The button on the left was made
available around the US, while the much rarer button on the right was distributed to
stores in the Anaheim/Los Angeles area. In this region, the show was aired on the specific
channel that the button advertises. Since so many were distributed, these are some of the
easiest advertising items to find.
Disney Store
Foamcore Poster
These two designs of posters were printed on
foamcore board and displayed in or outside of Disney Stores while the show was on the air.
You'll be hard pressed to find these nowadays, even in online auctions.
Disney Store
Standing Cutout
Wouldn't you want something like this in your
living room? Never intended for public release or sale, these massive four foot wide
cardboard cutouts graced the front windows of Disney Store storefronts, along with posters
and other signs advertising the show. These are extremely rare.
Official Press Kit
Rare but highly collected, television show
press kits are distributed one to every station that airs the show. The official press kit
is the most common, presented in a navy blue folder with a raised MD:TAS logo. Inside are
papers with articles about the show, and a CD-ROM with .txt files of the papers and
promotional images. These and the other variations of the press kits can most often be
found in online auctions.
Press Kit with
Sericel
A more generalized version of the above press
kit, this one comes in packaging used generally for Disney TV Animation's shows. This one,
however, is packaged with a sericel, or a cel image created specifically for display
rather than for use in animation. Because the cel is included, these items are both highly
collectable and very rare.
Boxed Press Kit
The ultimate for press kit collectors, this
version comes with all of the things offered in the official kit, plus color and black and
white prints, an information booklet, and a set of projector slides featuring images from
the show. Very rare as far as press kits go, this version was likely to have been
distributed only amidst the Disney staff.
Preliminary Press
Kit
Distributed while the show was still in its
conceptual phase, this kit was likely used to peak intrest within the Disney organization
about the show and its premise. It comes in a folder with a preliminary logo image, a
preliminary picture of Wildwing, and general information about the show.
ABC Poster Ads
These two designs of poster were used to
promote ABC's fall lineup of shows from Disney. Featured on both of these posters are
images from MD:TAS. Because these foldout posters were most likely distributed and
displayed among television station staff, they are very rare.
Action Figure Ads
Retail stores that sold MD:TAS figures would readily advertise their sale in
booklets and newspaper inserts, especially when they were first released in the winter of
1996.
McDonald's In-Store
Display
Never intended for public sale, these
cardboard displays had each of the toys fastened to them and were placed in a plastic case
inside McDonald's stores to advertise the promotion. Because of the fact that they are
supposed to be disposed of after use, they are quite collectable and available only
through online auction sites.
McDonald's
Trans-lite Display
Trans-lites are colored sheets of plastic
that are used to display pictures of toy promotions or menu items on screens either
overhead behind the ordering counter, or outside on a drive-thru ordering board. This
particular trans-lite piece was only on display for the four weeks of the MD:TAS
promotion. They were not made for public sale and were supposed to be disposed of after
use. Because of this, they are highly collectable and quite rare, even in online auctions.
Notes: All
of these items should be considered very rare, and aside from the cast member pins you'll
be very lucky to find these items anywhere. To read the contents of the press kit CD-ROM
.txt files, head over to The Dragon's Den. The two McDonald's items are also cross-listed
on the Promotional page.
