Media
With tie-ins to movies and
books, the stories of the Ducks become portable adventures that people of any age can
revisit again and again.
Mighty Ducks, the
movie: The First Face Off
The only incarnation of the Ducks officially
released by Disney onto home video, this movie collects three episodes: The First Face
Off, Duck Hard, and The Final Face Off. The only difference between these episodes and the
ones aired on TV is that there is some extra narration by Phil to tie the three episodes
together into a continuing story. Available in VHS format only. Released on April 8th,
1998.
Golden Activity
Pads
Pictured above are three in a series of six
Mighty Ducks activity pads released by Golden Books. Paperback booklets that were bound at
the top and had a cardboard backing, these pads focus on poster coloring, paint with
water, stickers, activities, and more. They feature some Mighty Ducks clip art that can be
found nowhere else.
Golden Books
Paperback books meant for young children,
these two books were made by Golden Books and feature the retelling of a specific episode,
either 'Phil in the Blank' or 'Dungeons and Ducks'.
Disney Chapters Series Books
Designed for readers who have advanced beyond
the Golden picture books above, these two chapter books are part of the Disney Chapters
Series. Both of them are paperback books released in 1997, which chronicle the episode
they are titled after. Both books also include a page of temporary tattoos. Each runs 64
pages long, and is published by Disney Press.
Disney's Action Club Comics
Sold only through a subscription to the
magazine, Disney's Action Club featured five Mighty Ducks comics, two of which were
featured on the magazine's front cover. Rarely seen on auction sites, a place to find
these might be through backorders directly from the magazine itself.
Disney Adventures
Magazine
Disney Adventures magazine is sold both by
subscription and over the counter at major supermarkets and bookstores across the US. The
October 1996 issue featured Wildwing on the cover. Inside was a lengthy article detailing
the show's premise, art, creative team, and voice actors. Also included is an article
about the Mighty Ducks hockey team.
Disney Newsreel
Distributed to relatively few media and
television employees, this issue of Disney Newsreel featured articles on several new
projects for Disney in the fall of 1996, not least of which being MD:TAS.
Notes: All
books and movies have long since gone out of print. It would be very rare indeed to find
them at any bookstore. However, the movies pop up often in mint condition on online
auction sites. The best place to find books is also online, through a bookstore that also
sells used items. The best chances to get the comics and magazine lie in placing a
backorder directly with the publisher.
